Riva Valdobbia (Walser German: ''Riifu'', Piedmontese: ''La Riva'') is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Vercelli in the Italian region Piedmont, located about north of Turin and about northwest of Vercelli. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 236 and an area of .〔All demographics and other statistics: Italian statistical institute Istat.〕 Riva Valdobbia borders the following municipalities: Alagna Valsesia, Campertogno, Mollia, Rassa, Rima San Giuseppe in Piedmont; Gressoney-La-Trinité and Gressoney-Saint-Jean across the west border to Val d'Aosta. == Geography == The municipality is near the end of the Valsesia, the main Sesia Valley. It is a touristic place with a cross-country ski ring and an ice car track during the winter. It is known to be the only town where the south-east side of the Monte Rosa—the same mountain that dominates the Po valley and is visible from the plains from Turin to Milan. Mollia, the town downriver, is behind a bend of the valley, and a secondary line of lower hills totally obscures the main peaks just few meters before the Riva Valdobbia–Alagna Valsesia municipality border.
